New Trend

Posted by Nikole on January 31, 2009

Jeff and I were gone for almost a month in December. Since being back I have noticed a couple “new” things the cats do. Shadow for instance cuddles with his sister openingly. Normal if I catch him cuddling next to her Shadow gets up and leaves. Now he looks up and watches me until I leave. The spot for cuddles has become my bed. During the day the cats sleep on it. Merideth has become more alof since we have been back. Normally she chills with us. Now she seems to be spending more time hanging out with her brother Shadow. Another thing she does is sitting on the couch in the living room. Its quite a cute sight. Merideth curls up near the corner of the couch next to the arm rest. The only time she seem to want to cuddle with her humans is if they are using the red fleece blanket! Oh well. I am sure to post soon! Just waiting for another scoop from the kitties.

The Blanket Tent

Merideth curled up under the blanket hanging from my legs.

Due to the chill in the air I have been drapping a red fleece blanket on my legs. This new behavior has shown me how much the Furry Princess (Merideth) loves hiding under said blanket. It started a couple of days ago. I thought it might be a one time deal. The first time I was cudding on the couch watching a movie with the Hubby when I noticed my blanket moving. I looked down to see a furry tail sticking out from underneath my legs. (My legs were resting on the coffee table, creating a tent of sorts.) Jeff got the camera. He lifted up one side of the makeshift Merideth tent to get a picture. It was so cute.

Merideth looking regal in her Red Blanket Kingdom

Yesterday I couldn’t find Merideth any where. I had almost given up when Shadow showed me her new hiding place. I had left that red fleece blanket on my art stool the previous day. Well Merideth had tucked her self under the stool. I noted how cute she was curled up under the blanket. She immediately got up so I couldn’t capture a picture. Tonight I was back in the spare room playing with Shadow. He loves string, so that was the game I was playing with him when Merideth gave herself away. A stripped light brown paw came out from underneath the blanket to catch the moving silver string. My tears from laughing so hard didn’t seem like it would ever stop. Eventually Shadow took over Merideth’s tent domain to play “bat the string from under the blanket” game. I was able to get a picture of Merideth in her red fleece tent.

Caught!

Posted by Nikole on November 27, 2008

Just a couple minutes ago Jeff and I heard a loud meow. This wasn’t a good meow. Both cats caming running out of the office. It looked like Shadow was chasing Merideth. I picked him up, and asked him what the commotion was about. Jeff went in to investagate the office room. He came out with a tuff of Shadow’s black fur. It seemed that petite Merideth wasn’t being so nice.

I started to play with Shadow. He was on top of the carpeted cat tower. Merieth came up on was on the lower level of the cat tower. Jeff had just finished making a drink for me, so I stopped playing with Shadow. Shadow pawed at Jeff as he walked by the cat tower. This was why I was still looking over at the cat tower when I caught Merideth. She jumped up to the top of the cat tower where Shadow was perched. Then she hissed at him! I told her, “No”. Merideth knew she was naughty and jumped down.  I caught her being naughty to her brother. She confirmed my theory of the loud meow earlier. Shadow was probably being harassed by Merideth.

Currently Jeff is playing with Shadow in the cat tent. Merideth just came over to get in on the action. I have a sneaking supsesion that Merideth is up to something again. Poor Shadow is twice her size, but he is easily harrassed by her. Yeap. Merideth just went in the tent. Jeff reports that Shadow gave Jeff a pleading look from the tent and then left.

Seems odd that Merideth was being so cuddly earlier, yet she is being seriously naught now. Cats they make common day life lively and more interesting.

Cuddle time

Posted by Nikole on November 27, 2008

I woke up this morning to a wet nose touching my face. Merideth was saying hi. Lately she has been my alarm clock. Later when I got back from running some errands I was in for a surprise. Merideth came and laid next to me. She tucked herself right against my neck. It was so sweet. I didn’t want to get up. She was purring so hard. Eventually Merideth curled up into a ball next to my belly. When I got up I made sure to giver her play time. Merideth had the blinky eyed look when I came back with one of her toy mice. She couldn’t be to upset with me with a toy as an offering!

I have been feeling bad about our upcoming trip. The kitties will be by themselves. Thoughts of everything that could go wrong have been playing in my head. I have been contaplating hiring a pet sitter. The thing is that Merideth and Shadow don’t trust strangers. I think it would have to be a female sitter. The cats seem to like women better (outside Jeff).

Shadow and Merideth have been testing christmas gifts out. I am currently putting together holiday packages for all the family animals. My mother has two cats and a dog. My sister two precious girl kitties. Jeff’s dad has a fuzzy orange cat. So far the kits include a cat tent from ikea, toy mice, fuzzy foil balls (Shadow’s contribute) and catnip sacks. I am going to get the dog Max some new tennis balls and a frisbee.

Merideth just put herself on my lap. She is being really cuddly today I wonder if she is feeling okay.

A Quick Entry upon Request…

Merideth demanded I write something. She is sitting next to me on the art stool that goes with my draft table. Occasionally she paws the keys. Most of the time she has been watching the screen. I think she likes to watch the movements on it. She also loves to watch television with us if she is interested in what we are watching. I have noticed she has a tendency to watch science fiction action flixs more than anything else. Her favorite is film to watch is Starship Troopers. The bug scene elicit the most responses. Occasionally a paw taps on the television or a quite chirp will be made. I like to play it just for her! It is so cute how attentive she is when she is focused on the monitor.

Lately another great pass time I to play clips on youtube with cats talking or meowing. Both of the kitties come rushing in from around the house. I think  Merideth knows that its not real. Shadow on the other hand will bat at the laptop if I am not careful. Besides that I don’t have anything great to post. I do plan to capture Merideth using her “Hack box” on video. Its gross but she only coughs up hair balls when she is in the “Hack” box gagging herself on the edge of it. Like the saying goes “a picture is worth a thousand words”. Well a video is even better.

Well I am off to go do more school work. As the semester goes on the work keeps getting more time consuming…

Closet Destruction

Posted by Nikole on October 23, 2008

I wasn’t here when it happened but Jeff was. A loud boom noise came from the bedroom. He told me that Merideth had been in the Study with him when the noise occurred. Shadow was next to the bed when Jeff came in to investigate. I was told that Shadow stood there acting all nonchalant. Jeff didn’t see anything amiss. He was almost out the door when he remembered I had left the closet open. Some how the boxes that have been up on the shelves for months now are down on the floor. Here is a picture of the crime scene.

The question is what motive did Shadow have to knock down the boxes? I have looked over the contents and haven’t found anything missing. Another unsolved case for the crime scene.

Magical Cat Magnet, Folded Clothes

Posted by Nikole on October 23, 2008

“Argh, Bugabou get off those!” I heard my mother say to her cat while on the phone with me. I laughed because the two furry kitties here do the same thing. This summer has been a time of sun dresses which means no folded clothes on the bed. There has been a lack of furry bodies re-furring fresh fur-less clothes too. So it was funny after talking to my mom to find Shadow on the bed laying on top of a pair of pants I had laid out for class.

A fold article of clothing is a sure way to find a cat. Leave a fresh clean pair of pants or even a folded shirt out on the bed. When you come back there will be a bundle of cute furry feline on it. I told my mom that over the phone earlier that day. Shadow proved me right.

Photogenic Merideth

I know I am so cute...

I know I am so cute...

Merideth is a camera hog! She will come over and pose for the camera. I don’t know if it’s the attention she gets or if she just likes to pose. It might be that she had cameras going off since we brought the two of them home years ago. She always has her eyes open for the pictures too.

Right now she is being super cute, for she is staring across the room at Jeff. She lays in such odd positions. Currently her right forepaw is twisted back and the left forepaw tucked inwards. Her neck is stretched out with her head flat on the ground. Yeap she is still staring up at him. Maybe he has a bug flying around? She really is silly. I think this once I won’t harrass her with a camera…

Bonding Time in the Box

Posted by Nikole on October 17, 2008

The cats love boxes. They will lay on, crawl in, and crush boxes. If you place a box in a room with in minutes there will be a furry creature resting inside it. Usually boxes are fought over territory. It’s like a tooth brush you just don’t share it. This is cat law in the house. Its an unspoken rule.

Which is why I was so amazed to see the two cats having some quality bonding time in a box left for them in front of the glass doors. Shadow ignored me but I got a glance back from Merideth when I took this picture. There was some good bird sight seeing going on too.
